What is an autosexual?

Autosexuality, also known as autochorissexuality, is an orientation that describes individuals who feel sexually attracted to themselves. Autosexuals experience sexual pleasure from fantasizing about and engaging in activities where they are the focus of the sexual experience. For instance, an autosexual may enjoy masturbation or taking part in activities such as role-playing with a partner or using mirrors to watch themselves during sex.

More about autosexuality

Though little research has been conducted on autosexuality, it is considered to be a valid orientation on its own and not simply a symptom of narcissism or self-obsession. Autosexuals may identify as heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, pansexual, or any other sexuality and experience attraction towards their own gender identity. The attraction can be physical or emotional in nature and can involve feelings of love for oneself.

For some autosexuals, self-pleasure is the main form of sexual expression while for others it may be combined with consensual sex with a partner. While it may seem strange to some people to think about being sexually attracted to oneself, many autosexuals report feeling validated and respected for embracing their orientation and find it liberating.

Autosexuality should not be confused with autoeroticism which means using an object rather than one’s own body for sexual pleasure. It is important to note that everyone’s experiences are different and there is no one “right” way to identify as an autosexual nor is there any wrong way either. Everyone should feel free to explore their sexuality in whatever way feels natural and comfortable for them.
