Join us for an afternoon in celebration of queerness, wholeness, and community with our Day Retreat in honor of PRIDE — by taking time to tend to our inner landscape at Groundfloor Club.

Folks who identify as LGBTQ+ and allies are welcome. Please note this is a queer-centered space.

Sunday, June 4th from 1:00 - 5:00 PM at Groundfloor Club Oakland located at 4055 Telegraph Ave, Oakland CA

Groundfloor is a warm, welcoming space to build deep friendships. It exists as a cure to social isolation, and their mission is to empower new relationships, face-to-face. Groundfloor members join a thriving, representative community with access to beautiful communal spaces built for connection, productivity and wellness.

Workshop: Yoga for Pride & Authentic Leadership

Melissa Andrada (Mel - she/they) will guide a joyful Hatha Flow practice to celebrate the fullness of who you are. She'll introduce somatic practices to center and connect to your own authentic expression of pride and leadership.

As a queer Filipina American born in Nigeria who came to the States as an undocumented immigrant, Mel brings a highly sensitive approach to and off the mat. Alongside their yoga teachings, Mel is an independent DEI Strategic Consultant, Workshop Facilitator and Leadership Coach for organizations that have included Amazon, Target and DocuSign.

They co-lead the queer yoga collective at the studio Arise in Oakland, and are currently pursuing a part-time Masters in Expressive Arts Therapy at the California Institute of Integral Studies.

Workshop: Queer Spirituality For Healing

Using the framework of her new release, House Of Our Queer: Healing, Reframing, and Reclaiming Your Spiritual Practice, Bex will share a variety of tools from her “spiritual toolbox” including energy work, astrology, tarot, sacred sexuality, honoring ancestors and reclaimed Christian roots. Bex will share about her own journey towards reclaiming spiritual ritual, while supporting participants in sharing about their own journeys and finding their own spiritual tools for healing that balance manifesting with calling in for support.

Bex Mui, M. Ed, (she/her) is a biracial, Chinese and Polish, first generation, queer witch, energy worker, and equity consultant committed to the work of LGBTQ+ affirmation. Bex founded House Of Our Queer, a QTBIPOC-centered spiritual playspace where she shares offerings for the queer and trans community.

In her book, House of Our Queer: Healing, Reframing, and Reclaiming Your Spiritual Practice, Bex shares about her spiritual journey and current practices. Bex has been a national professional LGBTQ+ advocate with a focus on adult learning spaces since 2016.

Integration, Discussion, & Light Bites in Community

We will wrap up our mini-retreat with our signature letter-writing practice. This is an opportunity for deeper connection inward with ourselves and with those on the journey with us — all while harnessing the unique power of being in community with other open-hearted humans.

The Optimist Collective is a bi/AAPI/female-owned group that curates wellness experiences like retreats & workshops cultivating connection.

Scholarship tickets available to LGBTQ+ folks who wish to attend and are experiencing financial hardship. Please reach out to hello@theoptimistcollective.com
